Abraham Lincoln
February 12th, 1809, the day Abraham Lincoln was born, in Kentucky. His mother died when she was ten, and his father was removed to Kentucky when he was eight. When he came of age, he did not know much, but he was still able to read, write, and cipher. Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to gain knowledge as he went around the country. In 1858, Lincoln ran against Stephen A. Douglas for senator. He lost the election, but in the debate, he created what is now known as Lincoln-Douglas debate, in addition to this, he got the Republican election for President in 1860. He won.

On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation.  This document stated that all slaves within the confederacy were freed.  Lincoln was very open to allowing the South to come back into the Union and to begin rebuilding what had been destroyed in the Confederacy.

However, John Wilkes Booth thought that he was somehow helping the South. Therefore, on Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theatre.
